Just watched it.
Is...is..."AWFUL" can't describe it.
Is a BIG HOLE with some plot stick on it.
The script is bad.
The direction is bad.
The acting is bad.
The visual FX could have been good, but they're ruined by the bad direction.
The design of the robots is somewhat cool, but too complicated to be understandable with such bad direction.

I'm not a great fan of G1 -my favourite transformer series was Beast Wars- but this is too much: is not a bad toy movie, is a bad movie on his own- is bad cinema.
The thing i hate to think is that special effects are now believable enough to tell a story, but the story lacks. Producers keep using too much of the budget on special FX and spare on writing, while they should understand that the story is the core, not the visuals.
Appealing visuals are a must on this kind of movie, of course (i am the first to like a good visual and a good fight sequence, being a comic artist) but without a story is all useless.
The impression this Transformers movie left to me is like "OK, i'm watching ILM stretching his muscle...now, where's the movie i payed for? Where's the Story? The Characters? (yes, with capital letters)"

One more thing:
Michael Bay, please, stick to music videos. I have nothing against you, really, but you're not a movie director. You're a MUSIC VIDEOS director...If Transformers was a 7-minute lenght music video probably would have been better. But movies, they're different...leave them to REAL directors.
Plus, i want to know what was Spielberg thinking when he choose Bay to direct...

GOOD NEWS! (well, as long as you - like me - liked the movie...)
The overwhelming box office success of the movie, according to Wikipedia, convinced the creators to plan TWO sequels, involving, believe it or not, Soundwave, the Dinobots, the Constructicons and none other than...

<short pause to build suspence>

TIDAL WAVE HIMSELF!

Yep, the largest non-citybot ever, the colossal decepticon, the brainless king of the sea is bound to show up in the near future!

That said, who would you like to see in the future movie team?

Me, I'm rooting for Arcee or Elita 1, if only to see whether they can make a sexy fembot that also looks realistic Very Happy

As an aside, I also root for Unicron showing up: after the BIG disappointment of FF2 (won't spoil it, but Galactus isn't... well, isn't what could be expected) I'd like to see a REAL planet-eater at work. Very Happy

Some interesting facts....

Spock (Leonard Nimoy) did the voice of Galvatron in the Transformer Movie.

Orson Welles did the voice of Unicron. If you don't know who Orson Welles is, one word for you.... "Rose Bud."

Peter Cullen was the voice of both Optimus Prime AND Ironhide, in the show and the animated movie.

The Transformer Movie also featured the voice talents of Judd Nelson, Robert Stack, and Eric Idle. It also featured Lion doing the theme song, it is arguably the BEST MOVIE SONG EVER!

I just saw the movie the other day. First of all, I enjoyed the movie. I'm glad it didn't suck like I feared. It could have been so much better. First of all, it was a little too long. I started shifting around in my seat after two and a half hours. Second, the cursing. I was disappointed with all of the curse words in the movie. Not a lot but still, when should a Transformers movie have ANY curse words in it, especially one that has a toyline and endorsements with Burger King? Confused Also, there was a lot of adult humor that was a little over the top. I know that they were trying to make this movie to appeal to everyone but again, kids. You have KIDS coming to the theather and buying your merchandise. It's their responsibility that the movie is APPROPRIATE for THEM!!!

What I liked: Shia LeBeuf was awesome (better than I expected), the humor, and the story itself. I knew it wasn't going to be like G1 but it was okay for its own self-contained separate universe.

What I disliked: the lack of Tranformer interaction (both Autobot and Decepticon). The Transformers themselves were TOO robotic. It was too hard for me to figure out who was an Autobot and who was a Decepticon. Autobots had red Autobot symbols and Decepticons had purple Decepticon symbols. The symbols were bright enough for everyone to see. The faces were so unrecognizable. Besides Bumblebee, Ratchet and Optimus, could anybody tell the difference between Ironhide, Jazz, and the Decepticon police car? Starscream and Megatron? Anybody? And Freny and Jazz...wtf. Also, I like Bumblebee being a beat-up car but when he "upgraded", that lost me. He kinda had a charm about him, reminding me of Bumblebee in the cartoon. He was a beat-up car that could TRANSFORM INTO A ROBOT!!! He was supposed to blend into the background, remember? Now he was flashy enough to draw attention. Real smart.

Like the guy from Ifilms said, the movie was so much about us (humans) vs. them (Decepticons) with just a hint of Autobots that it could have been called anything else but Transformers. Haven't we seen this before? Aliens from outer space coming to invade our planet? Our government knows of their existence but keeps it hidden? Independence Day II?

Like someone said in a blog earlier, they made such a big deal out of turning Megatron into a jet instead of a gun because of the whole shrinking him down for other robots to use but in the movie, Bumblebee hits the Allspark and turns it from the Borg Cube into a Rubix cube?

I didn't like the fact that the fighting took place in a city. I would think Optimus and the gang would try to move the fight to the desert to protect the humans. Speaking of protecting the humans, why would Optimus allow Bumblebee to sacrifice himself protecting Sam and Megan (Fox) while he hid? Why would the Autobots allow Spike to take the Allspark to the roof? NONE OF THEM WANTED TO TAKE IT??? Confused "We'll cover you." WTF???

Finally, the fighting sequence was a little confusing. It was very hard to tell what was going on and who was fighting whom. I may have to watch the movie again to keep things straight.

Overall, it was a good movie, not a great movie. Obviously, there will be a sequel in the making with possibly Soundwave, Devastator, and the Dinobots possibly making appearances and maybe even Unicron. I and the rest of you will go see it and slam the hell out of it, but that won't be for a few years from now. See ya then. Wink

You've hit most the things I was irriated about with the movie.

You did an awesome summarization.

It was a decent movie. Not a great movie.

I TOTALLY agree. I was thinking of the same damn thing after walking out of the movie and during the movie as it was happening. WTF is this?

Agree. And Agree. The robots look soo damn similar... And not to mention they look ugly as hell... I couldn't tell what was going on during the final fight scene except for Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, when it was their turn to fight.

I didn't even notice or could tell Jazz got killed until they said so at the end. How did he die? I missed that... I though it was the Baracade police car guy that got killed.

WTF was that... The producers made a big deal about mass shrinking so thats why Megatron was not his gun thingy? Or Soundwave not being in the movie cuz of that? But of course, they're planning a sequel to introduce mass shifting?

Makes no sense.

Like the guy from Ifilms said, NOBODY in HOLLYWOOD knows anything....

Nah, Jazz was killed when he hung on for dear life to Megatron, and defied him... and Megs basically ripped him in half with his bare hands on top of a building, remember? (by the way, is there such a thing as bare hands when one is a huge armorplated robot?)

Barricade gets killed in the comic book adaptation (by Optimus, that basically pops his head off with a punch), but in the movie he simply disappeared.
One can basically think that, given how Bumblebee was able to trash him without even using weapons, he decided "to heck with it" and simply ran away rather than fight Optimus or the dual-gun-wielding Ironhide. Which, IMHO, would make him the wisest Decepticon around.

I know. The design of Bumblebee in this movie is weird unlike the G1 version and in Micron Legend.

I'm a big fan off the transformers.

The first was a good one, but which one know's when the second is in the bios?
