Since I've not come across one yet, I'd like to take a moment on this day to thank all the military men and women, both retired and those still wearing the uniform day by day for your selfless services to your country both over seas and on your own shores. On this day, we remember all those who have served both past and present, and remember especially all those who payed the ultimate price for freedom. I myself sometimes forget exactly what it is I do, and fail to remember just what it meant for me to speak that oath those years ago. But on a day like today, I remember everything I trained for, just as so many others trained before me, and so many others will train in the future, and the purpose for what I do becomes clear, and I realize that every day we put on that uniform, every day we salute those colors, every day we pick up that wrench, that swab, that radio, that rifle, every day we feel the sweat running down our brow, the ocean or the sand spraying in our faces, we do it because we choose to do it. And we do it without question for the sake of all the innocents we swore to protect.

To all the veterans...

To all of my fellow brothers and sisters still sporting the uniform, along with their families...

And to all of the fallen heroes whos sacrafice shall never be forgotten...

I thank you. And I salute you.

You beat me to the punch, Feingo.

I also wish to thank all who are serving, or have served. It's not much, but... thank you.

I've made the offer once, I'll make it again.

If any serviceman, or veteran, among us here happens to be stopping by the D.C. area, the first drink's on me.

hehe my father was part of the aus third cavalry (the scorpions) just after Vietnam so i wouldn't call him a veteran so much as someone who joined because he knew there wouldn't be a war for a while but still i respect him greatly for doing what he did

I was enlisted in the Navy for about a year and a half before a medical condition flared up that ended up getting me separated. Never left a training command, either. I got through my submarine training, but was placed on medical hold. They said I couldn't be on subs, so I went surface. I had been in for over a year at that point, (I should know, I got married at my 1-year mark). Got to the surface training command, told me I could stay off-base with my wife when I arrived, but then they sent me to a different barracks that told me that it wasn't going to happen. This mixed with the "boot camp" treatment stressed me out and aggravated my condition further to the point that medical said I should just get out. About a month later, I was out and on my own again.

With the financial situation I'm in now, I wish I could have stayed in. Still, health is health. (Note: I do NOT want to go into details about the condition that got me discharged)

Even though my dad says I'm a veteran, I only served for two years so I really doubt my status.

My old man and me could never cut it as soldiers. I have respect for those that put their ass on the line everyday.

Stay alive, folks, stay alive.

F-22s are pretty hardcore fighters too. Too bad they only allow the elite to pilot them.

Thanks. I actually finished my 6 years of Guard service last month. Have 2 years of Inactive Reserve left. I may go back and try being an officer.

Pardon me for saying, but you've peaked my interest. Guard as in national guard or coast guard?

Illinois National Guard. Went over to Iraq for a year long deployment, and came back. Very grateful that our unit came back 100%.
