| I remember Ronald saying that a long term goal is to create an interactive BonBon, but it was implied that it would be 3D, like WoW or Second Life. However, I do not find this feasible. Instead, I had an inspiration to model an interactive BonBon after Japanese dating sims, or bishōjo. This method, I think, is more feasible and in my opinion, more entertaining. By using static backgrounds and limited static images of characters (mouth movement and eye blinks, plus emotional expressions), having a truly interactive BonBon is possible, and in the relatively near future compared to a fully 3D environment. I'm not saying in a year or even two, but I just had the inspiration to model a interactive BonBon on bishōjo games. |

I agree that a bishōjo type bonbon would be great.

| Normally I'd say that I prefer the 3D version. But I think in this case the 3D models would hardly match the quality of Vanessa's (and of course the other artist's ) work. I'd be fine with the bishōjo version :) |

Still out of town right now. Remotely logged in to clean up the forum.
But regarding the MMO game. Well- I never said I wanted a 3D game like WoW or second life. It just happens to be in the poll cuz that's what was given to me as poll questions.
I am on board all the way with you guys in regards to using 2D sprites for an MMO. I was thinking more like Maple, Giaonline, Ragnorok, Trickster style. Some of those names might not ring a bell for people in a poll question.
The big challenge is going to be creating the custom selection.
Gantros if you can drop me an email with some links and stuff that would be great.
I had planned for a dating sims game of some sort for BonBon a while back. It wouldn't be MMO but nice to get some sort of adventure game feel to BonBon.
Let's keep the discussions rolling.

I'm familiar with Ragnarok and Maple story.
Also, I think sprites are at times far better than 3D. You certainly can get better details, especially in facial expressions. Not to mention, if you want something animated, flash can easily make that happen. |

I prefer sprites myself. 3D games usually make me dizzy.

| I like setting the achievable as a goal. I'm a huge fan of cutting out the flashy stuff and keeping it nice and simple. Cheaper, reliable, and likely to actually be accomplished. |

I have to agree with the good Doktor. Let's see what can be accomplished before we decide what we want to be done. |

| I have seen a few people come up with a lot of great ideas that I personally felt were a little "too far in the future" to be acted on yet for a number of reasons. While I think it's great to suggest something for the site,I think we should keep in mind the RL realities that have to be delt with to make what we wish come to pass.Sometimes,it's easy to do,sometimes it's not. ;-) |

Heya people, i personally think a pbb game should be done in 2D, not because you cant make it in 3D, but because it would take longer time or a larger team to get good results in 3D
by all means if that's what the people want, then do it, and if your at loss for what engine to use, I've heard quite good things about the unity engine: http://unity3d.com/ its both pretty up2date, and quite easy to use, the only downside is that the actual program you use to make the games with only runs on a mac. the games can run on both mac and windows though.
a few reasons why i think 2D would be better then 3D even though I'm a 3D artist and love 3D and would love a PBB game in full 3D
The team is used to making things in 2D and they are quite clearly good at it
It takes a much larger team to make something in 3D then in 2D, especially if you want it to look good.
One of the really nice things about PBB is the lighting (and shadows etc), getting something like that in 3D with the furry look would require different shaders and full dynamic lighting and soft-shadows (or els the shadows would need to be painted on the characters which can look a bit odd) that would probably result in some people being pissed off because their computer isnt good enough to play the game.
well, i don't have time to write any more, but ill check back next weekend and hopefully write some more.
but as said, if you guys want to make a 3D game, unity3D is probably the best "affordable" engine out there. |

An MMO is do-able. I don't think 3d models of Bon Bon's working girls would replace the comics, though.

| I very much doubt anyone here is talking about replacing the comics, August. And if anyone is, I'll be having a "word" or two with them. :x |

| I don't know much about creating games, but I'm thinking that I'd probably prefer 2D, assuming that's the best way of capturing the style of the comic. |

| Besides which, if you truly wanted to get involved in a 3D furry world, you could go to Second Life. That seems what most do on Furry Affinity and Deviant Art. |

I know that any kind of MMO is way in the future, but I thought Vanessa, Martin, and/or Ronald might be interested in this, Ren'Py, an open source dating sim making program. It might have potential.

| It does sound like a very good idea. As much as I enjoy WoW-like 3D games, I also quite enjoy the 2D ones as well (out of that list you mentioned, the only one I've played is Gaia, but I've heard of Ragnarok and Maple), and it's much more doable; especially as fur in 3D is a nightmare for programming (take a look at Monsters, Inc. as an example, and that was just a movie, not an interactive game. I'm all for a 2D dating sim or MMO. Sounds great. |
