At Richmond, Washington on May 21st, 2013, Microsoft unveiled their new console as a successor to the XBox 360. It is dubbed the Xbox One.

I am interested in hearing everyone's opinion on this new console and how they feel it will fare against other consoles.

I guess the original, which everyone referred to as the Xbox 1, is now no more.

The "XBone" reveal can be watched here.

http://www.gameinformer.com/p/xbox-a-new-generation-revealed-live-stream.aspx

Personally, I am considerably unimpressed.

Aesthetically it looks like a brick. Console designs seem to have gone full circle as this thing literally looks like an oversized, black Nintendo.

I dislike the considerable amount of focus they appear to have put into the whole "socialisation" thing, as if it is the next big deal. I want to play games on my console, not skype and watch TV. If I wanted to know what my friends are watching/playing/listening to 24/7 I'd join Facebook.

Microsoft's "partnership" with EA to bring supposedly unprecedented sports features and coverage also fails to garner any interest from me as I really couldn't care less about sports and sports games. Few people know the true meaning of playing a sport is these days, to enjoy the game and bring entertainment to those watching, not to be "the best that ever was" and cause riots when your team loses.

For an hour and three minutes, there was more talk about how to sit on your already fat, lazy arse and bludge in even easier ways than there was about actual gameplay, which is what these consoles were originally made for. I don't care about "The Cloud" or "connectivity". I just want to play awesome games.

That said, the fact that this console comes with a Kinect from day one says to me that I am likely going to be FORCED to move my XBox gaming experience into the lounge room where there is actually enough room to use it. This will not only be an inconvenience for me, but for my mother who also lives here and watches that TV. This is why I got a second TV for in my room. The Kinect will entirely defeat that.

Voice activation and commands can also go fuck themselves as that only serves to promote even more laziness. In fact, the only two things in that reveal that I actually found remotely interested was the announcement for a live action Halo TV series directed by Steven Spielberg and the advertised Quantum Break game. Though the announcement of the game did little to show much about the gameplay of the game, the concept has me... intrigued at least. Whether the Halo TV series will prove at least half as good as the games and RvB... we shall see.

The console itself aside, the presentation was overall quite appalling in my honest opinion. I understand the idea of selling yourself and your product, but the way in which this console was presented was nothing short of egotistical and presumptuous. With the past announcements of the DRM feature and the total truckload of... well, garbage that has been poured into this XBox "The One", I would like nothing better than to see it crash and burn. The fact that Microsoft claim to have more games in production for this console at this time than any other time past would only serve to make their ridiculous attitude an even greater example of what happens when a game company grows too sure of itself.

No doubt I will have little choice but to buy this... brick in time, so that I will actually be able to continue playing some of the games I love. But it will not be any time soon.

Dont get me started on the force install DRM BS. If you buy a game, it would be installed on the system, but if you want to lend the game to a freand. He/she would have to pay Micro Soft a fee to install it on his/her system, All so they could fight off the used game market, but they also muck up the rental markets of Red Box and Game Fly. also the system requires being connected online at least once every 24 hours. Also the Xbox one is not backwards compatable, At least the PS4 had the excuse of switching to a differnt cell proccesor to make things easyer for developers compared to PS3.

So it is safe to say that instead of getting an Xbox one in the comeing years, i would instead be looking into getting ether a better PC or a PS4.

That... was retarded.

And quite an apt summary of the one hour and three minutes I spent watching the XBone reveal.

As far as I can tell, the system seems more focused on media than actual gaming, and with the restrictions in place for the games that they announced, its pretty much going to make nobody want to actually buy one.

"going to make"? Who wants to buy one now? No-one! Why do you think Sony stock JUMPED 9% during the XBone reveal?

I certainly don't. Goodness knows that xbox screwed the pooch on this one. If they think otherwise, then they are sadly fooling themselves. I better get myself set on using the PS4 or Wii-U, because those ones seem like they are going to at least be more 'fun' than the XBone. I wonder where people at Microsoft get these ideas from?

Just saw the E3 press conference and I'm not impressed for something to cost 499 at launch. They used the platform to show the new 360(which looks like the One)and to promote the games exclusive to them in hopes that it would polish the turd of an image they had from initial conference.

How is it that Microsoft can't see all the wrong they are doing here? Didn't they make polls or surveys, or even actually ask people what might make the Xbox better?

Unlikely. You'd probably find it was more of a board meeting in a spiffy looking, 20th story office with a big ass window for one of the walls where they highest paid individuals of the company, who know almost nothing about the gaming community, pretended they were "in the know" about what gamers want and normal people like and just tossed around ideas on how to give their console "new" features and make it look amazing when there really wasn't much more they could do beyond upgrading minor things like graphics. They deluded themselves into thinking that people are generally stupid and will buy anything if they make it look and sound good enough but really gave the consumer nothing more than they already had while giving themselves big fat pay-checks and pats on the back for doing "a good job".

It's a classic tale of the salesman telling the consumer what they want. Sadly, due to Microsoft still controlling a large portion of the computing industry through PCs alone, it's unlikely that the XBone's likely crash in the market will adversely affect Microsoft beyond "Oh, well, that failed. What's next?" That fact aside, I'm afraid to say that despite the absolute steaming pile of shit that the XBone is, it's entirely possible that there will still be a considerable number of them sold for the simple fact of, junk aside, it's still a pretty good console. The only thing that will keep the XBone afloat (assuming a majority of people on this planet actually have half a brain and decent self control) is the games themselves. Halo, Assassin's Creed (assuming Black Flag doesn't end the series) are just a couple of examples of what many, many, MANY people will be forced to miss out on if they don't buy an XBone.

I hate to admit it, but in truth, I am still somewhat up in the air about actually buying one of these Black Bricks. Nothing would please me more than being able to take a flaming sledge hammer to one of those machines, that is how much I don't want to buy one. But circumstances may in the end force my hand and my wallet. If I am to continue playing some of the largely spectacular games on the XBox series of console, I may have little choice but to get one. I've recently learned of a Dragon Age III in the making and would be intrigued to play it. I've also learned that the original Fable game is being remade. I adore the original Fable and would be ecstatic to see it remastered. But I may very well have to miss out on these due to Microsoft's latest conception.

I await the final verdict. November will see the release of the XBone and with it will come the truth of the masses. Assuming Microsoft don't grow a brain between now and then and make some MAJOR changes, it will be the relative "success" or absolute failure of the console when it is launched that will decide if I will eventually find one of these... things in my home.

In the 80's Coca Cola released New Coke and the consumers rampaged. Coca Cola quickly repented and returned things to the way they were. But 30 years ago, people were smarter, less lazy. Necessity was still the mother of invention in the 80's. It's now 2013 and laziness is now the new mother of invention. People want their products now, they want to do less to get more and more and more people literally know less and less.

Three decades ago consumers rebelled against a major corporation, declaring their rightful dominance within the economic structure, stating clearly that the customer is always right. Today I'm not so sure that will happen. I fear that most will simply roll over, their bloated bodies no longer having the energy or drive to stand up against a major company and tell them "This is not what I ordered. Take it back."

November will tell not just Microsoft but the world whether or not consumers are willing to bitch slap companies that get out of hand across the face or just complacently eat whatever garbage is set on the table before them. And anyone with half a brain will know that if Microsoft gets away with this BS, it won't stop there. A little flag will raise in the mind of every major, hell, even minor companies that they can do whatever the flip they want with their product and the consumer will just sit and shovel it in their gob.

Since its first reveal showed it to be a pretty lousy system, they listened to the community and did a complete 180, now that its free of lousy DRM, doesn't need the kinect anymore, its become a very good system to buy. Personally I now prefer it over the ps3 since it has the ability to do lots more than the ps4 (ps4 mainly geared towards gaming, while xbox one having 3 different operating systems to do just about anything you want it to). also microsoft is giving the max possible processing power possible on their console for games so they'll come out as good if not better than ps4 games. Personally I believe the Xbox one is going to come out on top of the latest generation of consoles
