I just thought that Conner deserved some recognition on the anniversary of his passing. For his contributions to this site and ultimately for his country.
Here's to you Conner. I hope you are happy wherever you may have found yourself. |

| A soldier who fell in the line of duty. To that honorable man, we say that he shall be missed. Rest in Peace, mate. |

| It's a shame I never had the chance to meet him, however, as a soldier who put his life on the line to maintain the freedom and beliefs of the free world, I find myself respecting to his memory, and my sympathies go out to those who he left behind. To him and the many others that have fallen in the line of duty, may you find your peace. |

((If you think I'm bad at saying hello, I'm horrible about saying Goodbye.
So... May the sun always be over your shoulder, may the breeze always be at your back, and may the road rise to meet you as you travel, Conner.)) |

Within the Gilded Pen, Leaf was sitting down with a glass of scotch upon the table. He didn't know Conner very well, but he knew about his service as a soldier. With a solemn look, he raised his glass in the air.
"Here's to you, sir, for all that you've done for your country." |

Deep in the heart of the forest...where the branches crisscross thickly high above, allowing only a scattered patchwork of sun to dapple the leaf carpeted ground.....stood a pile of neatly stacked stones. Flat, rounded by the flow of the river from which they had been plucked, they rose from the ground in a gentle mound, larger stones at the base, with smaller ones on top. here and there, nature had placed a bit of green. A spot of moss, a tiny flower or two.
Before this memorial, Brandon knelt upon one knee. His head lowered in silent prayer. A few yards behind the wolverine, his sister, Gabrielle, stood. She knew this was a personal moment for her brother, a remembrance for a fallen friend, so she stayed back, allowing him his privacy while also giving him the comfort of company. Several long moments past, Brandon unmoving.
Then, he reached out, towards the stacked stones....in his hand....a single scarlet rose. This he laid upon the top of the stack, then laid his hand against the cool surface of rock. Another few moments...and Brandon rose to his feet. Turning, he looked up at his dear sister with his still stoic, unchanging face....
.....his cheeks wet with tears.
Nothing was said, nothing needed to be. The female wolverine crossed the short distance to embrace her beloved brother. He hugged back.
They then turned towards home.
Behind them.....birds sang......a spot of warm sun lit upon the stones....as a butterfly alighted on that red rose. |

| I only had the pleasure of catching a few comments to him before he left on that service that he did not return from. Then and even now I will not forget easily how much he sacrificed to make his family, country, and anybody who he may have had the pleasure meeting him, proud. |

Within BonBon, Aria sat in her shop, her violin in hand. She knew the day, she remembered from last year. She had not met this one that had given the ultimate sacrifice, but even so, she felt as though she knew him. Taking violin and bow in hand, she ascended the steps to the second floor, moved towards another door and opened it to reveal another set of stairs. Ascending those, she opened the door at the top and stepped on tothe flat of her roof.
It was wide enough of course that she could stand up there(it was five feet wide), her eyes scanning over what she could see of the town. She moved towards the front of her shop building, the breeze catching her hair softly. Without looking down, but instead straight ahead, she set her violin in place, placed bow to violin and began to play.
The tune caught on the breeze would dance through the village, a tune fitting for the remembrance of a fallen friend. It was soft and sweet and surely if Conner were listening, he would hear it too, wherever he may be. A tear rolled down her cheek as she played, but Aria continued the tune, letting it flow from note to note. |

I'm sorry that didn't know him more.
Why do have always the brave ones to die?
You are and will be a true brother to use all. |
