I keep thinking Spiritual Therapy for some reason. The Meditation, herbal extracts, training of the old values of different culture's, etc.
Maybe he could be an exotic entertainer? The clothes certanly would merit that much. |

Just made a character myself. I went with the traditional Chinese medicine route, which would include things like accupuncture, cupping, tai chi, that sort of thing.
I'd wonder if your character will always have the sword around. If so, once assumes he's been trained in how to use it. Your character is a bit young to be a yojimbo or ronin, as the shogunate in Japan was gone by 1870, and the comic takes place in 1895.
Could be that your father was ronin and tought you the ways out of spite, then you escaped Japan so as not to be hunted down. As for jobs... you could either stick with the security/yojimbo route or go with something as a contrast. One thing that comes to mind is decorating, feng shui, gardening or flower arranging, perhaps cultivating and carving bonsai trees.
Just a few ideas. Hope you find your calling soon. |

| Added two more characters so its a trio of brothers in some form of medical knowledge. One being the acupuncturist to heal and mend muscles, the bone setter, and the mind healer. |
